Abstract
National language, customs and traditions, patterns of conduct, art, indigenous sports, moral virtues, historical monuments, geography and territory, and numerous other valued elements to which nations have become attached—living, rejoicing, and grieving with them—constitute national identity. Among the most foundational and essential components of this identity is the national language. Throughout its ancient history, the national language of the Iranian people has been Persian. Adversaries of the Iranian nation have consistently attempted to weaken national identity by degrading and undermining the Persian language. They have recognized that one of the most effective pathways to weakening Iranian national identity is to erode the vitality of its primary national driver—namely, the Persian language. This article defines the lexical and conceptual dimensions of identity, revisits the activities undertaken by adversaries to obstruct the growth of Iranian national identity and the Persian language, and reports on the solutions proposed by Ayatollah Khamenei to prevent the weakening of Persian, restore cultural excellence, and enhance the strength of national identity within the Islamic Republic of Iran. The study underscores that, in the face of adversarial obstruction, the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people have not remained passive; rather, through the vigilance, religiosity, and scholarly conduct of Ayatollah Khamenei, they safeguard both their material and spiritual assets. On this foundation, they remain hopeful of achieving scientific advancement and elevating the Persian language to the forefront of global scientific discourse within the next fifty years.
